Last weekend, Trump spewed vile tweets at Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Ayanna
Pressley, Ilhan Omar, and Rashida Tlaib. A few days later, Trump addressed
Rep. Ilhan Omar to his roaring crowd of supporters while they chanted,
“Send her back! Send her back!”

Let’s start with a step back: Racism like this is vile, and inexcusable --
and it’s also not new. Trump has brought this language to the forefront of
our political discourse, but people of color have faced this kind of
hatred in the US for as long as we’ve been a country. So while we’re
reacting to this specific instance in this specific moment, we’re also
reminding ourselves that this is part of a much larger, much more
ingrained problem in our society -- the culture of white supremacy. 

What we did this week: Early this week, Indivisible wrote $2,500 checks to
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Ayanna Pressley, Ilhan Omar, and Rashida Tlaib
out of our PAC’s “contribution account,” a fund that exists to directly
support bold candidates like them. More than ever, the squad needs to know
that Americans have their backs, and they need the resources to fight back
against the Trump administration’s repugnant, racist attacks (this week’s
surely won’t be the last). We already had all four of them on our list to
support -- but by timing the gifts with this week’s news, we’re hoping to
show our support in the midst of an awful moment for them. 

What’s next: We’re doubling down on the next round of primaries that
matter most to elect more leaders like the squad. We’re already analyzing
early stage primaries in key districts and promising candidates who we can
count on to courageously speak truth to power while representing the needs
of their constituents. We’re working now to figure out how we’ll work with
local groups to support wins in those key districts. More to come, so stay
tuned.

How we know it’ll work: Not to toot our own horn, but our track record is
🔥🔥🔥. In 2018, we went big by investing in the primaries to get members of
Congress like Ayanna Pressley elected. You helped build that blue wave.
Now we’re seeing that’s turned into a blue wave of legislation in the
House.

Why it matters: The House just voted to raise wages for 33 million workers
to $15 minimum via the Raise the Wage act. Medicare for All continues to
gain momentum. These victories wouldn’t be possible without your work and
the work of thousands of Indivisibles who helped build the blue wave and
elected bold representatives who are leading the charge on these policies.

What we need: Plain and simple, we need this movement to keep doing what
we do best -- and right now what would be most helpful is your financial
support for our distribution fund. Your donations will allow us to keep
playing the primaries, including supporting today’s squad -- and
tomorrow’s. Every contribution matters.
