BUILD BACK WORSE
Build Back Never?
As Joe Biden prepares for his taxpayer-funded vacation around Europe, where he’ll tout his extremist climate change agenda, the Democrats are constructing fake hope around their “Build Back Better” plan. In the middle of the day Thursday, an updated 1,600+ page bill text was dropped, the House Rules Committee held a hearing to consider this tax-and-spend measure, and there was still no vote!
Once again, Democrats don’t have an agreement – this is deja vu. The ongoing political theater orchestrated by the liberals in the Progressive Caucus has been going on for months and this latest act reminds me of the infamous Nancy Pelosi quote before the Democrats passed Obamacare: “We have to pass the bill so that you can find out what is in it, away from the fog of the controversy.”
Here we are again, caught up in the drama of the Pelosi Playbook. Picture this: Joe Biden and the Democrats are failing. Not only do they mismanage the American economy (2% growth vs 9.3% forecast) they fail to get their fellow socialists to agree on anything.
What’s their proposed solution? To tax you more so they can give your money to grant programs, equity programs, studies, and many more taxation mandates that won’t help you or our economy. They want more of your money to pay for their mega bill spending spree.
Of course I will oppose this measure if it ever comes to a vote.
DEMOCRATS STILL WANT YOUR GUNS
This week in the House Judiciary Committee, the Democrats proceeded to pass H.R. 3277, the Federal Extreme Risk Protection Order Act of 2021. Don’t be fooled, the correct iteration of this bill’s title should be, “The Subverting the 2nd Amendment to Confiscate Your Guns Act.” This bill is a federal Red Flag Law.
Red flag laws— known as “extreme risk protection orders”—allow law enforcement, family members, or others with close relationships to the individual to petition a court to temporarily remove firearms from an individual who they believe to present a danger to themselves or others. These laws trample on an individual’s due process and Second Amendment rights because they permit the seizure of an individual’s firearm or ammunition before the individual is given an opportunity to be heard in court. Red flag laws are especially ripe for abuse because the list of individuals who can petition a court for an extreme risk protection order is expansive and includes a parent, spouse, sibling, child, dating partner, roommate, previous roommate, and the list goes on.
I vehemently opposed the passage of this bill.

Moreover, as I mentioned in the video above from the Judiciary Committee hearing, arbitrary confiscation of guns would present a disincentive for those considering to seek mental health assistance. We don’t want to live in a country where people seeking help face more obstacles, thanks to yet another overreaching federal law.
PROUD PARENTS ARE NOT TERRORISTS
Yesterday, I joined my Republican colleagues on the House Judiciary Committee in sending a letter to Congressman Jerry Nadler (NY-10), the Democrat Chairman, regarding the Biden administration’s targeting of concerned parents who are voicing their opinions at school board meetings. After the spectacle of the Merrick Garland hearings, it is clear that “we must not tolerate the use of the federal law enforcement apparatus to intimidate and silence parents using their Constitutional rights to advocate for their child’s future.” Concerned parents who remain active in their children's lives are not “terrorists” — this may seem obvious, but the Biden White House and the Department of Justice must be reminded of it.

THE POLITICIZED NSBA
The politicized National School Boards Association’s (NSBA) board of directors has considered propagating their agenda onto honest, law-abiding parents for expressing their own perspectives; something that is protected under the First Amendment. On Wednesday, the same cadre of my Republican House Judiciary Committee colleagues joined a letter to the NSBA’s President, informing him that we are investigating the use of federal law enforcement to target concerned parents at school board meetings. The NSBA—a nonprofit educational organization—has been communicating with the Biden White House, in what we believe to be a coordinated effort to disparage concerned and involved parents.

AROUND THE DISTRICT
SCHOOLS WITH MASK MANDATES WILL NOT RECEIVE FUNDING
If public schools attempt to force your child to wear something over their face while they are learning in the classroom, they will not receive emergency funding. Freedom has prevailed. Currently, the Florida Department of Education is withholding federal funding from Alachua County and Broward County because of their mask requirements for all students and staff, regardless of vaccination status. The Biden administration has warned against ‘defying’ the U.S. Department of Education, so stay tuned!

SINKHOLE IN NW FLORIDA
On Monday morning, the Pensacola intersection of Garden Street and Barrancas Avenue gave way to the weight of an Emerald Coast Utilities Authority truck, resulting in a vast sink hole or “wash out”, as determined by the Florida Department of Transportation. As many know, this temporarily shut down the intersection, but construction is projected to finish this repair project soon.
RED TIDE DETECTED AT NAVARRE BEACH PIER
As reported by Pensacola News Journal on Thursday, the Florida Department of Health in Santa Rosa County warned residents and visitors to use caution when on the beach or in waters with high concentrations of red tide.
Both people and pets should stay away from affected areas until the blooms move farther offshore or go away.
Currently, seafood, including shellfish, in restaurants, hotels, grocery stores, and markets is safe to eat and beachgoers are encouraged to check conditions before they go to the beach as conditions are subject to change.
