I’m State Senator Mona Das and I proudly represent Washington's 47th Legislative District in South King County. We just finished up a busy legislative session and I’m proud of all that we have accomplished this year!
From COVID-19 relief to action on climate change and racial justice, I was honored to join my Democratic colleagues to pass the reforms that our state needs. Together, we’re paving the way for a better future and leading the nation in the fight for meaningful change.
In order for meaningful change to happen, we need your support. Will you pitch in any amount possible today before our end of month deadline on Sunday?
During the last legislative session, the scale of our work changed so I wanted to give you a few updates.
Racial justice.
The legislature passed my bill, SB 5135, to allow for civil litigation in racially motivated 911 calls. Washingtonians of Color are too often subject to police calls rooted in racial discrimination instead of public safety — and I was proud to take action to address this. Another bill I sponsored, SB 5044, requiring public school educators to receive diversity, equity, inclusion, and anti-racism training was also passed this past legislative session to dismantle institutional racism in our schools and increase cultural competency!
Promoting recycling and reducing plastic pollution.
The legislature passed my bill to increase the use of recycled materials, restrict polystyrene plastic/Styrofoam products, and require that plastic utensils are only provided upon request. Senate Democrats are committed to addressing our growing waste management challenges and protecting our state’s environment.
Expanding affordable housing.
Governor Inslee signed my bill to expand incentives to build more affordable housing! We’re facing a housing crisis in this state and I’m committed to keeping up the fight for safe, affordable housing for Washingtonians. Change doesn’t happen overnight, but our persistence and determination comes from your support. We need your support now to continue working for our families in the months ahead. Will you pitch in to help Senate Democrats make meaningful changes?
Thanks for reading this email — and thanks for being such an important part of our team.
