Your Prayers to a Spiritual Bouquet for US Bishops Upcoming

A Spiritual Bouquet for our
Bishops
Dear Friend,
This coming month, November
15th to 18th, all the bishops of
the United States will meet for their fall assembly in Baltimore,
Maryland. This is their main meeting of the year.
As they gather to discuss and make
policies for the wellbeing of the faithful in our country, we need to
pray for them, that the Holy Spirit will inspire them to truly follow
the path of God.
We at Catholic Action for Faith
& Family acknowledge the sobering truth that it is not easy to be
a Bishop! We know that all men have weakness due to Original Sin. Even
the greatest leaders and saints in history had their faults. And yes,
we have seen bad and questionable leadership from some members of the
hierarchy over the years, and we certainly do not turn a blind eye to
these downfalls. In fact, earlier this year we published an essay
questioning why some bishops of the USCCB conference voted against
preparing a document on the Holy Eucharist.
With this in mind, however, we wish
to respond in a prayerful way – the way of the saints! – to the
problem of church leadership. We propose to storm heaven with our
prayers in the form of a spiritual bouquet offered for two primary
intentions:
- Above
all, for the spiritual wellbeing of the bishops, and
- That they will confront the challenges
facing the Church with steadfast faith and courage in order to make
decisions in accordance with God’s Will.
There is no way these prayers could
be misguided because they spring from the very heart of the Gospel
message, where we are directed to “pray for kings and all those in
authority” (1 Timothy 2:2). This is especially relevant to Church
authority.
Let us trust entirely in what St.
John Vianney said about prayer: “God rules the world, but prayer rules
God.”
Cardinal Raymond Burke, the
Episcopal Advisor of Catholic Action acclaimed: “I urge the faithful, laity and clergy
alike, to join in this special work of prayer on behalf of our
Bishops, especially as they gather for their annual November meeting.
Our Bishops, as true successors to the Apostles have the pastoral care
of God’s flock. They depend upon our prayers, so that they may be
good, holy, and courageous shepherds, after the Heart of Jesus the
Good Shepherd, defending human life and defending the Church. May the
Holy Spirit guide their discussions and bless their deliberations.”
Join us by adding your prayer
intention pledge to our “Spiritual Bouquet for the US Bishops”, which
I will personally present to the bishops when I attend their plenary
session in the third week of November.
Sincerely in Jesus and Mary,
Thomas J. McKenna Founder and President Catholic Action For
Faith And Family http://www.catholicaction.org/
