Before the weekend, I wanted to give you an update on our work in Washington.

 

We are making real progress and close to passing both the bipartisan infrastructure bill and the Build Back Better Act. Here are just a few ways these bills will help Vermont families:

• Extend the Child Tax Credit, which has already reduced child poverty by about 40 percent. The average Vermont family with kids under 17 is now receiving $400 a month under this plan — money they can use to keep food on the table, afford school supplies, and heat their homes. The checks will continue.
• Create universal pre-k and expand quality, affordable child care, which will relieve stress for working parents and invest in our future. Child care workers will also receive a raise — they take care of our kids and deserve better pay.
• Fight climate change with a historic investment in clean energy innovation and green jobs.
• Extend broadband into rural Vermont, advancing equity by making it accessible and affordable.

Now that we’ve agreed to a framework deal, we are closer than ever — but Congress needs to hear people demanding action to get this done. Add your name.

 

These investments will help Vermonters whether they voted for Joe Biden or Donald Trump. And we will fund them by getting the ultra-rich and giant corporations to pay their fair share.

 

It’s been a busy week hammering out many of the remaining details. And I will continue to fight for what Vermont families need, including bringing down the cost of prescription drugs by taking on Big Pharma’s monopoly pricing power.

 

With the bipartisan infrastructure bill and the Build Back Better Act, we prioritize caring for families, lowering health care costs, and addressing climate change. Kids will stay out of poverty and jumpstart their education. Families will be able to afford caring for a grandparent who needs help staying in their home. Our communities will be able to build more affordable housing. Our planet will have a fighting chance against climate change. And families across Vermont will be able to finally connect to high-speed internet for work, education, and staying in touch with loved ones.

 

We are close to passing these transformative bills. But more work needs to be done to finish the job. Add your name and tell Congress to pass these bills so we can fight child poverty, give our kids a good start in life, tackle climate change, extend broadband, and more.
