Ohio Governor Mike DeWine Week in Review

 Governor DeWine and Lt. Governor Husted speak alongside members of Cincinnati's Innovation District and JobsOhio as they announce a new expansion.
On Monday,?Governor Mike DeWine and Lt. Governor Jon Husted joined leaders of the Cincinnati Innovation District and JobsOhio?as they announced an expansion within the district that will focus on supporting minority-owned businesses in Ohio.
 Governor DeWine helps cut the ribbon with AES Smart Operations as they celebrate new job creations and an investment.
Governor DeWine also delivered remarks on Monday at the AES US Smart Operations Center Ribbon Cutting ceremony in Dayton, an event which celebrated the completion of a new investment and job creation by AES Corporation.

On Tuesday and Wednesday,?Governor DeWine, First Lady Fran DeWine, Lt. Governor Husted, Ohio Environmental Protection Agency Director Laurie Stevenson, and Ohio Department of Development Director Lydia Mihalik toured the state to launch a major new initiative that will impact local?communities by helping to fund critical infrastructure projects and providing essential resources that?families?need to thrive.??
Governor DeWine and Lt. Governor Husted announced the first round of water infrastructure grant funding awarded as part of a new, statewide initiative to help build a stronger foundation for improved quality of life for Ohio's families and?continued economic growth for Ohio's communities.?
A total of $250 million in grant funding will be invested in water infrastructure projects as part of the new Ohio BUILDS initiative. The first round of water infrastructure grants announced this week awards $93 million to 54 projects that impact communities in?60 Ohio counties. The remainder of the water infrastructure grants will be awarded in the coming weeks and will ultimately impact communities in every county in Ohio.

"These grants are about strengthening our future, our people, and our communities," said Governor DeWine. "We want our kids and grandkids to stay in Ohio, and clean water is essential to the health and future of our state.? Protecting and ensuring that every community in Ohio has access to safe and clean water has been our mission from the start, and with these grants, we are continuing our mission to provide access to economic development tools that will help communities grow and thrive well into the future."
?From the beginning of our administration, Governor DeWine and I have made water quality and protecting our natural resources in Ohio a priority, but water quality isn?t just about the environment and our health, it?s also about our economic future,? said Lt. Governor Husted. ?Investing this one-time money we have on infrastructure will improve our quality of life today and protect it for future generations.?

Also on Wednesday,?Lt. Governor Husted traveled to Ashland for the North Central Workforce Alliance Lunchtime Summit to speak with business leaders and students about what the state is doing to support workforce and economic development.

On Thursday, Governor DeWine hosted a meeting with the British Ambassador to the United States, Dame Karen Pierce. The United Kingdom is Ohio?s largest European investor, with 14 percent of the state's international investments. Nearly 600 British-owned companies have a presence in Ohio and its companies directly employ more than 37,000 Ohio residents.? The United Kingdom is also Ohio's largest European export market, accounting for approximately $1.5 billion in sales.?
Also on Thursday, the Governor signed?Executive Order 2021-15D?allowing the emergency adoption of Rule 3301-107-01 of the Ohio Administrative Code by the Ohio Department of Education, implementing the afterschool child enrichment educational savings account program. He also signed Senate Bill 1, House Bill 176, and House Bill 21.
 Lt. Governor Husted talks to Milford officials about Ohio BUILDS and the new water infrastructure grant.
Lt. Governor Husted made a stop in Milford on Thursday to announce an Ohio BUILDS project totaling $3 million. The grant money will fund the construction of a new water tower to serve as the primary storage facility for the Milford water system.
Additionally, on Thursday,?Governor DeWine provided remarks at an?event hosted by CareSource?to welcome?Exela Technologies to Dayton.
CareSource, a nonprofit managed care organization, and Exela Technologies, a business process automation leader, have recently formed a business partnership that is part of the growth of downtown Dayton.?

 Governor DeWine speaks at Harrison County Sheriff's Office about a new grant funding for the local jail.
On Friday,?Governor DeWine visited Coshocton County and Harrison County to announce a total of $50 million in grant funding being awarded to six local jails to help upgrade or build new facilities.?
A total of?$50 million?was allocated?to support local jail renovations in?Senate Bill 310?which?was?passed by the?Ohio?General Assembly and signed by Governor DeWine in December 2020.??The Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction?s (ODRC) Bureau of Adult Detention administered the?application process and selected jails?based on those with the greatest need for construction and renovation work to improve conditions and?operations.? The ability of each jail to serve neighboring?jurisdictions?was also considered.??
"Upgrading these jails is about more than just safety, it's also about providing an environment that can influence positive change," said Governor DeWine. "These jails have fallen into such disrepair because the counties simply couldn't afford the cost to rebuild on their own. With this help from the state, the improved county jails will better meet the demands of our modern criminal justice system and better address inmates' underlying issues that may be causing criminal behavior,?such as mental health or substance use concerns."?

First Lady DeWine promoted the Ohio Governor?s Imagination Library program at three book readings in northeast Ohio on Friday.
She hosted three separate book readings at Trumbull Community Action Program?s Head Start Warren West in Trumbull County, the Little Friends Preschool in Columbiana County, and the Carroll County Public Library. ?
