Though this year may not hold a presidential election, it is equally important to raise our voices on issues that impact our communities. We know that change starts at a grassroots level and we can spur that change for all in our communities by casting our votes on Tuesday, November 2. NEU4J Office Move Fundraiser
After growing their team and introducing new wellness initiatives, our partners at NEU4J are relocating to a larger office space in Dorchester, MA. We are proud supporters of their efforts in child care, housing, civic engagement, worker organizing, leadership development, and more.

Op-ed: Expand the Massachusetts Child Tax Credit for Immediate Child Care Relief
A recent op-ed by Mary Bugbee, Gladys Vega, and Noemi Ramos emphasizes on the urgent need to implement child tax credit and calls on Massachusetts legislators to provide an additional $600 per child under age 13 and $2,000 to $3,600 for children ages 0-17. The piece responds to the injustice and inaccessibility of child care in Massachusetts, both of which were exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic.

When it takes a village . . . and a day care . . . and a taekwondo instructor to raise a child
“Anyone who’s counted on a child-care provider in order to keep their own job knows just how essential — how fundamental — that labor is to a functioning, equitable society. Yet somehow, there’s still debate over whether child care is infrastructure.
‘When we invoke the term infrastructure, what we’re really saying is, these are the things that literally hold together our civilization and our society,’ says Sarah Jimenez, a senior researcher with the Boston-based coalition Community Labor United, which helped launch the pilot program Care That Works to help match parents in the trades with licensed family child-care providers. ‘Human communities are built on people taking care of each other,’ she adds, not just on people constructing buildings and bridges.”

Supporting Striketober
This month, workers around the globe took a stand for protections, fair wages and benefits, including Harvard’s Graduate Student Union-UAW. Labor organizing has been notably strong this month, even earning the title “Striketober” in the media. Though this month is coming to a close, continuing our activism and supporting those on strike is necessary to advancing and strengthening our collective movement for equity and justice. Workshop on ARPA Funds
Massachusetts Jobs with Justice, Mass. Budget and the Schott Foundation for Public Education will be hosting a workshop about American Rescue Plan Act funds on Thursday, November 4 from 6:00 - 7:30 p.m. The event will discuss potential impacts of ARPA funds on the state’s budget and how these dollars can be allocated toward community needs.
