Give today to help NOW keep VAWA strong

Dear John,

It’s been over 200 days since the House voted to reauthorize the Violence Against Women Act.

But because the NRA demands those convicted of domestic violence, stalking, or abuse be allowed to keep their firearms, VAWA languishes in McConnell’s “legislative graveyard.”

It’s NOW vs. the NRA, and we need you with us to stand up for survivors everywhere.

The gun lobby wants to leave open the “boyfriend loophole,” which exempts boyfriends and exes from current protections that apply only to live-in or married partners of the women they abuse. When abusers are allowed to have guns, victims of their abuse are far more likely to be killed. Mitch McConnell is selling women’s lives to the gun lobby. NOW cannot and will not abide by this.

The version of VAWA that Speaker Nancy Pelosi passed in the House closed the boyfriend loophole, but Mitch McConnell and the NRA want to open it back up in the Senate.

NOW needs your help to step up our grassroots lobbying, media activity and coalition building to win Senate reauthorization of VAWA—with all the improvements passed by the House.

Women’s lives and safety are on the line. We can’t let the NRA and Mitch McConnell bury VAWA in their legislative graveyard. Give today to help reauthorize VAWA.
