The latest reporting indicates that paid family leave is unlikely to make it into the final Build Back Better bill.

It is unfathomable that, after the past year and half, anyone could think paid family leave is not an urgent need for our families — and to help rebuild our economy.

The United States is the only industrialized country without paid family leave. This is unacceptable, and it must change.

Our families need and deserve a national paid family leave program. It’s an extremely popular idea that is good for families and the economy!

If you agree, will you join me in calling on Congress to pass paid family leave as part of the Build Back Better bill? They need to hear that this is important to all of us as Democrats finalize this legislation.

When I was Chief Justice, I learned that court employees were expected to give birth one week and return to the court the next. That’s unacceptable.

And that’s why as Chief Justice, we created a paid family leave policy for employees within the court system. That helped over 6,400 employees be successful at their jobs and take care of their loved ones.

But the truth is, that is sadly not the norm for most North Carolinians. In fact, more than half of our state’s workers currently have no access to any form of family leave — not even unpaid.

Democrats ran on passing paid family leave. Our families need it, and we must not settle for any policy that leaves our families behind and hurts our economy.

Will you add your name to my petition to tell Congress to include paid family leave in the Build Back Better bill? It is unacceptable that America is the only industrialized nation without it.
