Pete's Update from the Campaign Trail

Schools Shouldn't Shut Out Parents

Dear Friend,

One of the most fundamental aspects of parenting is the role parents play in
their own child’s education. As a father of four children, including one with
special needs, I am grateful for many of the teachers and school board members
who helped and are helping teach and equip my kids for the future. But sadly,
in Minnesota and across the country, we are seeing some schools try to silent
debate and shut out the very parents who care enough to attend meetings and
express frustration and concerns with misguided positions some schools are
taking that don’t put their children’s best interests or even safety first.

Let’s be clear: I don't condone any violent behavior. I’m confident no one
reading my e-newsletter does. That said, it's outrageous the Joe Biden’s Dept.
of Justice is targeting parents who express frustration, concerns, and even
anger at school board meetings. Concerned parents are not domestic terrorists.

Check out a few of these concerning stories:

* Parents claim they have the right to shape their kids’ school curriculum.
They don’t. (Washington Post

* McAullife says parents shouldn’t tell schools what to teach (Yahoo! News

* The DOJ’s intimidation of parents with opinions (Orange County Register

)
* The Department of Justice’s outrageous assault on parents (The Hill

* Minnesota surgeon loses his job after telling school board to let parents
make decisions about masking kids (Fox News

Biden Plays Politics With Our Way of Life

Supported by Twin Cities liberals, Joe Biden dealt our part of Minnesota a gut
punch last week when he chose to play politics with our way of life and the
economic future and prosperity of working families in northern Minnesota by
trying to ban mining in northern Minnesota. Rather than follow the science, Joe
Biden’s out-of-touch decision is an affront to our invaluable union and working
families. This must be what "Build Back Better" means to liberals. I want
miners and working families in our part of the state to know that I won't stop
fighting for their future. I refuse to accept this cynical, misguided decision
and will fight it every step of the way and I’m pleased to see Twin Metals is
appealing this politically motivated nonsense. Read more here

Misguided Foreign Policy Gives China an Advantage

In a forum examining how Joe Biden’s exit from Afghanistan left significant
untapped reserves of rare-earth metals and minerals in the Taliban’s hands, I
shared one of my concerns. Biden’s poorly-handled withdrawal opened to the door
to China, Afghanistan’s neighbor, swooping in to control all of those rich
mineral resources. Ironically, as northern Minnesota sits on many of these same
precious resources that our highly skilled and well-trained workers could mine,
there is no doubt the U.S. will have to purchase those minerals from China for
our electric cars, our windmills, our iPhones, and our solar panels. Read more

$5.5 Trillion to Advance the Far Left Agenda

One of the roles as a member of Congress in the minority is to examine policy
put forth by the majority and scrutinize legislation to ensure it’s right for
our country. Unfortunately, not only does the Biden-Pelosi latest $5.5 Trillion
tax-and-spend bill impose the largest tax increase in our nation's history,
it’s also a Trojan Horse to advance the far-Left Socialist agenda. The Pelosi
bill I strongly oppose:

* Provides amnesty to more than 8 million illegal immigrants.
* Funnels $2 billion in federal funds to abortions through the Department of
Labor's Job Corps program and the Department of Health and Human Services'
Pregnancy Assistance Fund.
* Creates a new IRS surveillance program where they can monitor and track
every single bank transaction made without a warrant, permission, or limit.

Keep The Bad Guys Off the Streets

As crime is increasing in major cities and throughout our country, I hear from
constituents every day who want our legal system to better enforce our laws. I
agree that judges and prosecutors need to ensure we’re not throwing criminals
back onto the streets where they repeat violence and hurt more innocent
Minnesotans. As a 23-year police officer, I can totally empathize with this
Minnesota police chief, who said, “Our job is to find bad guys and arrest them.
Imagine how frustrating it is that when you’re the arresting officer and before
you’ve finished your report, that person’s back out on the street.” In
Congress, it is my mission to provide law enforcement with the resources they
need to keep our communities safe, and that includes a just legal system that
protects our citizens from criminals. Read more here
