John,
In two days, this campaign faces our October fundraising deadline, and I hate to say it, but we’re about $3,749 behind where we need to be. Before I ask if you can pitch in to help us reach our goal, I hope you’ll let me explain why deadlines like this matter so much.
The race for Montana’s new U.S. House seat is one of our best chances to defend our Democratic majority and ensure we can move forward on passing legislation that will help people: affordable healthcare, paid family leave, higher wages, action on climate change, and so much more.
It’s looking like Donald Trump’s disgraced Secretary of the Interior Ryan Zinke will be the Republican nominee to beat, which means he’ll have Trump supporters’ money behind him plus his own war chest fueled by lobbyists and corporate interests.
There’s currently three Democratic candidates in this race vying for the Democratic candidacy. I’m not a boastful person, but I can confidently say I am the most qualified candidate in this race, and I know I can beat Ryan Zinke. Here’s why:
First, I know how to win. I’ve represented my small town of Livingston in the Montana House of Representatives since 2017, serving two terms in minority leadership. In order to get there, I took on a Republican incumbent and flipped my seat from red to blue in 2016. I know how to turn a seat blue, and I know I can do it again in this new district!
I know how to lead. As a sitting state legislator, I have passed landmark legislation with an uncertain path because my colleagues across the aisle trust me and know I treat everyone with respect. My constituents know they are at the center of everything I do at the Capitol, and I will always listen to their needs, fight for what I believe is right, and deliver real results on the issues that matter most to Montanans.
I’m not asking you to trust me — I’m asking you to look at my track record and know that I can beat Zinke and be a voice for Montanans who feel like they don’t have a seat at the table. But in order to do that, I need your help standing out from the crowd as we move closer to the end of the year and ultimately the Democratic primary next Spring.
Sunday’s end-of-month fundraising deadline is a big part of that. The more we raise now, the more likely we are to win the primary and go on to beat Zinke.
Can I count on you to pitch in your first $5 today to help us close the gap and reach our goal by Sunday at midnight?

Every donation, whether it’s $1 or $500, goes towards the growing costs of this operation. I sincerely appreciate anything you’re able to contribute to keep this people-powered campaign moving forward!
