Hi John,
I'm Anna V. Eskamani, the proud state House representative for Florida's District 47 in Orlando.
In the early months of 2017, like many of us, I was reeling from the new Trump administration. I was working at our local Planned Parenthood affiliate, and knew the same old political boys' club that was running Central Florida wasn't going to cut it anymore.
So I started thinking about running for something, and one of the first people I talked to was Amanda Litman.
Amanda, Ross, and the Run for Something crew (that includes you!) were there for me before many others were. Even as someone who'd worked on campaigns and in politics, it was still scary to put myself out there. Knowing you all had my back gave me that extra boost.
And thanks to that boost,
I flipped a Florida state House seat from red to blue in 2018 and won by an even bigger margin in 2020 (while Democrats across my state saw major losses).
That's the power of Run for Something. That's the difference you make, John.
So now I'm asking you to join me as a Run for Something donor (yup, I give to RFS!) and help support more candidates like me. Can you pitch in $5 or more before October is over to elect more diverse young progressives?
If you've saved your payment information with ActBlue Express, your donation will go through immediately:
It's one thing to win an election. It's a whole other ball game to govern. And Florida lives up to its name as a battleground -- I work in a Republican-led body with a Republican governor who is more focused on building his profile on Fox News than serving our state.
But my constituents didn't vote for me to give up. They voted for me to get things done.
And that's what I've spent the past three years doing. Whether it's increasing state arts funding by 800% in my first term to helping 50,000 people across Florida access unemployment benefits during the pandemic (only 2,000 of whom were from my district) -- I am the happy warrior who never leaves anyone behind.
That's why I love Run for Something, too. You're the happy warriors who aren't afraid of a challenge.
You took a shot on the daughter of Iranian immigrants who decided she would try to flip a seat in Florida blue. And you literally do it for hundreds of other candidates just like me, from New York to Texas to Nebraska to Hawaii.
I know I speak for all of us when I say we are so grateful.
John, that's why I'm asking you to pitch in $5 or anything you can to Run for Something before the month ends -- to invest in the next wave of diverse young progressives just like me, who I hope make you as proud of us as we are of you.
Thank you,
Anna V. Eskamani
