Hi John,
We’re trying something new and inviting you along! If you’re like us—and we’re guessing you are—the constant swirl of news and media can be overwhelming, especially when it comes to abortion rights and reproductive justice. It’s led those of us on the Ipas communications team to ask, "what do we want?" when it comes to the online content we consume? And the answers are consistent: inspirational and informative, honest and authentic, efficient without being empty.
So every few weeks, we’ll be sending you an email with content that stood out to us in some way. News articles that we’ve shared in team chats, social media content that resonated with us, interviews that we found thought-provoking. Some things may be uplifting, others may contain calls-to-action. Either way, we hope you’ll look forward to it. Grab some coffee or tea and kick off your Friday with us!
Here are four recent things we think you’ll appreciate:
1. Evolving our language: Have you started saying “people who can get pregnant”? At Ipas, we’re always assessing our language and making changes as we learn and grow. Our team read this article ([link removed]) from The Atlantic and we've been discussing it since.
2. What if we all had abortion pills in our medicine cabinets? After the Texas SB8 law madness, abortion with pills has been in the news a lot. We know folks in the U.S. have less familiarity with this abortion method. This article ([link removed]) does a good job explaining what it is and how it’s transforming reproductive care.
3. Late-night television: Speaking of the archaic Texas abortion ban, last month Ipas's María Antonieta Alcalde, director of Ipas Central America and Mexico, was featured on The Daily Show with Trevor Noah! She was incredible (as always) and we appreciate the press coverage that harmful abortion bans have been getting. You can watch the clip here ([link removed]) .
4. Save this for upcoming holiday dinner conversation: We shared this short explainer ([link removed]) on surprising abortion facts on Instagram that really resonated with our community—and we thought it was worth sharing again. We all know there’s a lot people get wrong about abortion, but even the well-informed found some of these facts to be new and helpful.
