Newsletter of the Goethe-Institut Washington

Dear Friends,

Today is the big day! At 5:30pm, we will open our doors to welcome guests for the opening of Lukas Jüliger and Hoesy Corona's Unfollow and Earthboi, on display in The Corner at Whitman-Walker until November 20. Join us this evening at The Corner and at the Goethe-Institut for open galleries, music, a video installation, and more. Please be sure to RSVP via Eventbrite and bring your proof of vaccination against COVID-19, or a negative test result less than 72 hours old. We hope to see you there.

Calling all creative writers at every stage of skill and experience, from hobbyists to published authors – on Saturday, November 6, we will hold a virtual writing workshop in the scope of our Zeitgeist 2021 collaboration with our partners at the Austrian Cultural Forum Washington and the Embassy of Switzerland.

Speaking of collaborations with Austria and Switzerland, our trailer for Film|Neu 2021 is now live! Keep your eyes peeled for a full festival schedule and ticket sales, coming next week.

Are you planning on experiencing a sugar rush at least one time this Halloween weekend? Our latest episode of THE BIG PONDER explores the topic of Candy: why we love it, and what makes it so magical.

A Friday Evening at 14th & R

Join us this evening for open galleries, music, a video installation, and more, at the Goethe-Institut Washington and The Corner at Whitman-Walker – both in The Liz at the corner of 14th & R, in the heart of the Logan Circle-U Street neighborhood.

At street-level in The Corner, we will present the original drawings of Berlin-based graphic novelist and illustrator Lukas Jüliger, alongside the sculpture of Baltimore-based multimedia artist Hoesy Corona.

On the third floor, in the Goethe-Institut Washington, check out our bauhaus.photo exhibition, featuring photos that offer insight into the student life at the Bauhaus school in Weimar, Germany (1919-1933). We also present the video installation Past, Present, Tense. by Berlin-based American artist Christa Joo Hyun D'Angelo, originally part of our summer streaming film series in the scope of the Shaping the Past region-wide project.
