The Trump administration weakened NEPA, and we need your help to restore it.

TAKE ACTION! Restore NEPA: [link removed]

Dear Friend,

Shouldn’t you have a say in what gets built in your community? According to one of our nation’s most important environmental laws, it’s your legal right.

For more than fifty years, the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) has given people a say in federal projects that directly impact their communities. This means that when the government wants to bulldoze a community to build a highway, greenlight trash incinerators in communities of color, or construct oil and natural gas pipelines that threaten precious water sources, communities can fight back.

NEPA is often called the “People’s Environmental Law”; it is the reason there are comment periods where people like you have a say on environmental impacts. And when the government doesn’t do a good enough job analyzing those environmental impacts, NEPA allows Earthjustice to sue and ensure that the job is done correctly.

In part because it’s the backbone of environmental law in the United States, the Trump administration claimed NEPA was “bad for business” and gutted it to prioritize fossil fuel producers and polluting industries over public interest. This silences the voices of communities fighting pollution who deserve a say in projects directly affecting their lives and livelihoods.

The Biden administration has announced its intention to reverse these dangerous changes, but the fight is far from over. Polluters are already working overtime to keep things as they are – so we need your help to push back. We need strong NEPA regulations to reverse Trump’s damage and ensure frontline communities have this key tool to fight damaging projects that threaten their access to clean air, clean water, and land free from pollution and contaminants.

Communities deserve a seat at the table when it comes to projects that imperil their safety and well-being. Tell the Biden administration to strengthen NEPA and protect our communities.

Sincerely,
Stephen Schima
Senior Legislative Counsel
