Spotlight:
United States Deputy Secretary of Labor & Former California Labor Secretary
Julie Su

|
We are proud to honor a longtime ally and nationally recognized expert on workers' rights and civil rights, United States Deputy Secretary of Labor and Former California Labor Secretary Julie Su.
When Su took the helm at the California Labor and Workforce Development Agency, the legal and political system had been largely ignoring rampant worker misclassification at the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach. She prioritized ending wage theft, and her office adjudicated almost 500 port trucking cases, awarding drivers over $50 million in stolen wages and enforcing judgments against scofflaw companies who played shell games to avoid paying their workers. In the words of LAANE's Our People Our Ports Director, Jessica Durrum, "Her contribution in holding companies accountable for the systemic 'modern-day indentured servitude' at the ports is immeasurable."
Earlier this year, Su was appointed by President Biden to serve as the United States Deputy Secretary of Labor, a recognition of her dedicated career advancing justice on behalf of working families.
Join us on Thursday, December 2 to celebrate her invaluable work!
