This morning, the White House announced a "framework" for a Build Back Better deal that contains important down payments to dire problems facing our nation -- from climate disasters to families struggling with child care, home care, and health care. It has tax fairness provisions and pro-worker provisions that were unattainable just a few years ago.
But details matter, and a framework for a deal is not the same as a deal. Progressives in Congress are being pressured to give up their leverage in this important moment by passing the smaller infrastructure bill as soon as today.
As has been the case for months, passing the bipartisan infrastructure bill -- which Joe Manchin and Krysten Sinema want -- without the larger Build Back Better bill would put critical progressive priorities including climate action, universal pre-k, and taxing the wealthy on the chopping block and give corporate-aligned Democrats more leverage to remove them from the final bill.
And, please call Rep. Brendan Boyle and urge him to #HoldTheLine.
You can also tweet to Rep. Boyle here:
John, our progressive allies in the Congressional Progressive Caucus (CPC) have been fighting for our values even as conservative Democrats like Joe Manchin, Kyrsten Sinema and Josh Gottheimer have worked to derail progress on climate action, lowering the cost of prescription drugs, paid family leave and universal child care, and Medicare expansion for America's seniors.
While the CPC is now one of the largest caucuses in Congress -- it is clear that we still need to make it even bigger. We still need more progressives in Congress.
Thanks for being a bold progressive.
