John, unfortunately, the attack on all of your work to pass I-1639 is still ongoing.

It's been almost a year since Washington State voters overwhelmingly passed Initiative 1639 to make our communities safer, and almost a year since the NRA filed their first – but not last – lawsuit to stop this lifesaving initiative. Now, it seems that we are facing yet another threat to our hard work to make Washington safer. New reports claim that a group of gun rights extremists, including members of the anti-government militia group called the Washington State Three Percenters, are starting a petition to get a measure to repeal I-1639 on the ballot in November 2020. 


It is likely too early to know whether their strategy will go anywhere, or whether they could gather the requisite signatures. But one thing is clearer than it has ever been: The gun lobby and its supporters will not stop trying to undo our work and make Washington less safe. 

They need to know that we'll never give up on fighting for the safety of our children and defending the will of the people – but every day this fight gets more expensive, and we depend on financial support from gun safety advocates like you to keep it going.


I don't want to think about what could happen if our opponents’ resources outlast ours, John. That's why I'm asking you to contribute $5 or more – really, whatever you can spare – so we can continue fighting to defend I-1639 from these attacks. It shouldn't be this way. We shouldn't have to spend millions fighting to defend a lifesaving law that voters overwhelmingly supported at the polls. But nothing is as it should be when you're up against the gun lobby. Our country is suffering from a gun violence epidemic and the gun lobby won't even acknowledge it. Time and time again, they've blatantly ignored the facts, and now they're blatantly ignoring the people's will – all in support of their deadly guns-everywhere agenda.

We need to raise $12,500 by midnight to continue defending I-1639 from attacks, and we urgently need you to give now to help us get there. Please, John, donate $5 before midnight to keep this lifesaving model for the nation on the books, and end the gun violence epidemic in our country!
