John --

You have probably seen the news that Governor Newsom has declared a state of emergency due to the wildfires that are raging in California.

Among the dozens of fires are the Kincade Fire in the Bay Area that has forced hundreds of thousands to evacuate. In Los Angeles County, the Getty Fire threatens hundreds of homes. Millions also face power outages as a result.

I want to express my appreciation to the first responders and firefighters who are working so hard to contain these fires and keep residents safe. Here are a few things you can do to help:

1. Prepare: If you or a loved one lives near any of these fires please listen to the local authorities who are working to protect you. Prepare an emergency kit now and know your evacuation route.

2. Stay informed: Listen to the Emergency Alert System (EAS) and National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Weather Radio for emergency alerts.

3. Donate: Consider making a donation of any amount to The California Community Foundation’s Wildfire Relief Fund. Your contributions support intermediate and long-term recovery efforts from California wildfires.
