The Protect Girls' Sports Act will now be the law in Texas. I began this fight years ago pushing back on President Obama's policies. My message was simple: Boys should not be allowed to play girls' sports and take opportunities, sports records, and scholarships away from girls. It has also been about keeping girls safe from possible injury by competing against bigger or stronger boys.
We passed this bill, by Senator Charles Perry, five times in the Senate this year. The House leadership never brought it to the floor for a vote, even though Republican House members wanted to pass the bill. We passed it over to the House in the regular session and in every special session. It finally passed in the last special this month.
I am proud to see this critical bill finally pass. It has always been about protecting girls' and young women's rights, and their safety.
The Protect Girls' Sports Act will uphold girls' rights guaranteed under Title IX, a federal law that gives girls the same rights as boys to play sports. In Texas, we refuse to deny any woman or girl the right to compete on a level playing field and be the best in their sport. Our daughters and granddaughters have the right to participate in fair sports competitions.
Protecting girls' sports is common sense and important to Texas parents. Boys have physiological advantages over girls in sports. We cannot allow women to be pushed out of athletic scholarships and out of sporting excellence.
I am proud this bill is now law and I am grateful for the parents who brought this issue to our attention. The fight to protect our Texas values is more important now than ever. Texas is on the frontlines of stopping the Democrats' madness from spreading, and I'm asking for your support to help me keep fighting. May I count on your contribution of $5-10-25 or more today to continue fighting to defend our conservative, Texas values?
Your support will help our campaign champion conservative ideas across Texas. Because when conservatives win, Texas wins.
May God bless you and your family, and may He continue to bless the greatest state of all—Texas.
Sincerely,
Dan Patrick
Lieutenant Governor of Texas
