IJM client, now lawyer, takes on police brutality in Kenya
The Guardian shares an iconic IJM story, the story of David Makara. When IJM lawyer, Victor Kamau, met David Makara, David was chained to a hospital bed with a freshly amputated arm and facing false accusations from the police. Against all odds they won their case, and now David is defending others facing injustice in Kenya.

You put your name on the line and Congress could not look away
This June, around 1,400 IJM advocates reached out to Congress requesting a congressional hearing on the Trafficking in Persons Report to elevate its importance and impact on anti-human trafficking work done by government officials, survivors and NGOs. On October 27th, Congress did just that! The House Foreign Affairs Committee gathered to discuss combatting global human trafficking, and IJM’s Peter Williams, Principle Advisor on Modern Slavery, testified.

Head teacher of Ugandan school behind bars after abusing boys for five years
The Ugandan High Court ruled to convict a head teacher on twelve counts, including trafficking charges for his abuse of children at the school where he worked. He was sentenced the same day to life in prison. Our team in IJM Uganda is overjoyed to witness the resolve and justice brought to these clients they have worked with for years!

“When I was trapped inside that house, every day I waited to be found was a day too long” -Ruby*
Years ago, Philippine authorities, persistent in investigating the hidden crime of online sexual exploitation of children, found and brought Ruby* to safety, along with five other girls who had been trafficked into the same house. IJM, alongside the local government, fought for these victims, and their traffickers were sentenced to 15-years in prison. Now Ruby* is lending her voice and challenging those who can make change happen.
