Let me start by making myself clear, folks: The filibuster is a relic of segregation and holdover from the Jim Crow era — and it must be eliminated.
As early as 1837, the filibuster was primarily used by Southern senators to defend slavery, protect segregation, and withhold voting rights from Black folks.
Throughout history, the outdated policy has hindered the advancement of civil rights by blocking anti-lynching bills, bills eliminating poll taxes, and anti-discrimination laws in areas of employment, housing, and more.
We have allowed the filibuster to block racial justice and civil rights legislation for far too long. It time to elect leaders who will fight to abolish this archaic procedure -- and that starts right here with our movement. Will you chip in now to help us eliminate the filibuster?

Today, the filibuster still continues to hold up progress for working people and the economic agenda for the poor and barely-middle class. And yes, that disproportionately means people of color.
The House has already passed landmark progressive legislation to benefit the working-class such as H.R.1 the For The People Act, the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act, the Equality Act, the Freedom to Vote Act, bills that strengthen labor laws, comprehensive immigration reform, prescription drug price controls — and other bills that have no future in the Senate because of the filibuster.
Most recently, the filibuster has stalled President Biden’s Build Back Better plan that would invest $350 billion a year for the next decade into the struggles faced by working families. The bill includes improvements to Medicare, prescription drug costs, childcare, education, affordable housing, paid leave, climate action, and much more -- all without raising taxes on everyday Americans.
We will not be successful in closing the socioeconomic gaps in this country if the threat of the filibuster remains in the way of justice.
