Connecticut Republicans: In Wake of Attempted Killing of Hartford Police Officer We Must Act Now
We Need Legislative Corrections to Broken Criminal Justice System
HARTFORD – Crime- and the violent attacks on police that accompany it are on the rise in Connecticut.
"In the wake of an assassination attempt in which a Hartford Police Officer was shot point blank-by a perpetrator who allegedly killed another before shooting the officer-a perpetrator who has thirteen prior arrests, who was arrested and then released less than two weeks ago- it has never become more clear that the anti-police, pro-criminal criminal justice "reforms" that Connecticut Democrats have forced through into law are not working. Not only are their radical, misguided policies not working- they are failing Connecticut miserably. Our police know it. Our communities know it." Proto said
"There is no excuse for what has happened. We need to start keeping serious, violent offenders in jail. The people of Connecticut deserve better. Our police officers deserve better. We are praying this officer fully recovers and that these attacks stop. Connecticut Democrats’ anti-police, pro-criminal legislation is directly responsible for this violent crime crisis. The Democrats own this.. They have forsaken public safety in favor of ideology- and now they seek to mislead the public into believing there is no problem of their making." Proto continued
"The situation is not tenable. Republican leadership is calling for immediate action on crime. We must correct the radical changes to our laws before any more of our police officers or first responders are critically injured or killed by criminals who should be behind bars."
