Places Where Hope Can Thrive

Life is crazy these days. Just looking at the headlines can be depressing.
But even as our world spins out of control, there are always spots of sunlight, places where hope can thrive. One of these spots of hope is the education system.
“What?!” you may say. “I thought that public education was falling apart!”
And you would be right – it is falling apart. Evidence of this is in the school board meetings where angry parents demand that far-left race indoctrination be ejected from the curriculum, that transgender bathrooms be banned in schools, and that COVID policies be less restrictive on the children who sit in the desks and roam the halls. Meanwhile, school board officials and other politicians – such as Virginia gubernatorial candidate Terry McAuliffe, who recently said that parents shouldn’t have a say in what schools teach – utterly ignore these parents and their pleas to fix the education system.
But all of these signs are hopeful.
Why? Because it shows that parents are doing exactly what McAuliffe thinks they shouldn’t: taking control of their children’s education. Already, rates of homeschooling and other independent teaching are skyrocketing across the country. And when parents step up to the plate like this, there’s a whole lot of good that can happen.
But that doesn’t mean it’s easy for parents to do this. It’s downright hard, and it takes a lot of sacrifice and encouragement to be responsible for a child’s education.
That’s where we at Charlemagne Institute come in.
Intellectual Takeout, an online magazine we publish, seeks not only to be a voice for the ideas and news that our media has decided must not see the light of day, but also to be a source of encouragement for individuals and families simply seeking to live good, upright lives in an increasingly chaotic and crooked society.
As today’s school board meetings filled with raging papa and mama bears show us, many Americans want to raise their children right. They want them to become the virtuous citizens that our nation’s Founders insisted were essential to the success of our nation. But we’ve lost sight of that vision so much that even though the desire is there, many need a roadmap to find their way back. Through Intellectual Takeout and other resources, Charlemagne Institute provides that roadmap.
