What is the role of schools in helping to dispel disinformation and create more inclusive online communities? In the Fall issue of our magazine, digital literacy experts emphasize that the role of schools can be huge—and the need is urgen ([link removed]) t ([link removed]) .

But this work must move past the ways media literacy is often taught. This work must center aspects of identity, systemic discrimination and justice.

It’s something every educator of every subject at every grade level can do to help foster a better generation of online citizens. And the stakes have never been higher. From the January 6 insurrection to anti-Asian violence, offline injustices and violence are often catalyzed by online actions. “Despite the massive scale of the problem,” LFJ Senior Writer Cory Collins writes, “experts say change is possible.”
