Recently, the Supreme Court upheld a decision that denies D.C. residents voting representation in Congress.

But let me be clear about this -- our fight for D.C. statehood is far from over.

Earlier this year, I voted to make D.C. the 51st state. It was the second time ever in U.S. history that such a bill has passed the House.

This isn’t a red or blue issue. It’s a voting rights issue. It’s a democratic issue.

D.C.’s population is bigger than Wyoming or Vermont. The 700,000 Americans who live in the District serve in the military and pay taxes. But they don’t have full representation in Congress, and D.C. doesn’t have control over local laws, judicial appointments, or deployment of the National Guard during emergencies.

That’s not right. I’m fighting to right this wrong and make D.C. our 51st state, but all of my efforts in Congress to protect voting rights and the integrity of our democracy depend on the support of people like you.
