Dear Partners -

I can hardly believe that it’s been a few weeks since my last update. There’s lots to share:  how you can get your awesome activists engaged in GOTV now for the November 2019 elections; a quick look back at last week’s fourth Democratic presidential primary debate; the 18 organizing events we held across the state in one and a half days; and a recap of our packed 2019 Women’s Leadership Forum!

But first a fun, important ask: The departments at the DNC are in a "friendly" competition with one another to see which team can get the most people to sign up for SMS updates. Will you help me by texting READY to 43367? This will also help to ensure that you’ll get substantive updates and notifications about upcoming events.

2019 Elections

In eight days, states around the country are voting in crucial elections, and we have some big important opportunities to win, especially in the south. I wasn’t at the DNC when Doug Jones won the U.S. Senate race in Alabama, but I absolutely remember the tears of joy and the relief I felt when it happened. I don’t need to reinforce for you the importance of our party returning its attention and resources to the south. We made historic investments in 2018. And our Democratic committees, including the Democratic Governors Association, the Democratic Attorneys General Association, the Democratic Lt Governors Association, Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee, and others, have been hard at work investing and organizing to pick up seats up and down the ballot.

So we need your help in reaching out to voters and getting to the polls on election day. Below I’m highlighting just a few of the races that will be difference makers. Please sign up below and help spread the word. You can help to make phone calls, knock on doors, and help get out the vote for Democrats.

  • In New Jersey, all 80 general assembly seats are up and there are key Assembly races across the state. Sign up here to protect our super majority in New Jersey.

  • In Kentucky, we have the opportunity to put Democrat Attorney General Andy Beshear in the governor’s mansion. Sign up here to help flip the governor’s seat blue.

  • In Louisiana, we must reelect Governor John Bel Edwards and keep the governor's mansion blue. Sign up here to make phone calls before the Louisiana election.

  • In Virginia, we are two seats away from flipping the House of Delegates and two seats away from flipping state Senate. Sign up here to help Democrats flip the chambers and win a Democratic trifecta in Virginia.

  • In Mississippi, we have the opportunity to put Attorney General Jim Hood in the governor’s mansion. Sign up here to help make phone calls and flip the governor’s seat blue. We’re also looking for dedicated Democrats to serve as poll watchers on Election Day! To volunteer, simply fill out the form below and complete a short virtual training. Once you are trained, you’ll receive an Election Day assignment and instructions for how to pick up your credentials. NOTE: You do NOT have to be an attorney or a registered Mississippi voter to be an inside poll watcher! If you're interested in poll watching, please sign up

Every action could be the deciding factor in these crucial elections. There is too much at stake to sit this one out. If you’re in D.C. and interested in phone banking, please sign up to make evening calls between October 28 to November 5.

DNC Women’s Leadership Forum

Earlier this month, we gathered for the Women’s Leadership Forum, a two-day conference with training seminars, keynote addresses from the women who are shaping politics today, and the Women Will Vote Gala. We heard from Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Vice President Joe Biden, Senator Elizabeth Warren, Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, and more than a dozen women who flipped House seats in 2018! Additionally, the training day featured panels on organizing, social media messaging, and grassroots fundraising. Special thanks to our partners who spoke at and attended WLF!

Ohio!

This political & organizing team hosted 17 events over two days in Ohio around the debate!

These events included: standing in solidarity with our union brothers and sisters to walk the picket line at the UAW Strike in West Chester, a gun violence prevention discussion in Dayton with Mayor Whaley, a rural roundtable at Mac Acres Dairy Farm with advocates and leaders on agricultural and the issues facing rural communities, and a stop for ice cream and a chat at Columbus-grown Jeni's Splendid Cream with Jeni's Founder Jeni Britton Bauer.

The day continued with a Voter Protection Training for black women community leaders through our Seat At The Table program, a veterans roundtable discussion on the intersectionality of veterans’ issues, a New Americans roundtable with attendees from Columbus’ diverse immigrant communities, an LGBTQ happy hour with Jim Obergefell, and Chop it Up with African American men at a local barbershop. This engagement program for Black men was launched in Ohio with two signature events in Columbus and Cleveland.

On Tuesday, we held a Labor leaders roundtable lunch at the IBEW Local 683 with Congresswoman Joyce Beatty, an interfaith roundtable with Governor Ted Strickland, a youth leaders roundtable, an AAPI roundtable with community leaders, and two debate watch parties including a women’s watch party cohosted with the Ohio Democratic Party, the Franklin County Democratic Party, Planned Parenthood Action Fund and Planned Parenthood Advocates of Ohio. And to close out Hispanic Heritage Month, we held a roundtable with Midwestern Latinx electeds and grasstops leaders.

Organizing Corps 2020

This summer, Organizing Corps 2020 -- with your support -- trained 300 corps members in ten cities to ensure we have the field force needed to take back the White House. Organizing Corps 2020 is back with Wave! We are excited to return to seven key battleground states for a one-week-on-campus bootcamp for current seniors/May 2020 grads.

Get ready for the launch of Organizing Corps 2020 Wave 2! First up: Wisconsin and Arizona! The application for winter bootcamps in Arizona and Wisconsin are officially OPEN until November 12! Please share the application far and wide with folks who may be a good fit for the program.

As always, thank you so much for your continued partnership.

In Solidarity,
