John,
We are nearing the end of what will likely be one of the most critical months in our fight for fair maps. Texas Governor Greg Abbott just signed the legislature's gerrymandered congressional map which unfairly creates Republican districts in an attempt to dominate Congress for a decade. The NDRC’s affiliate, the National Redistricting Action Fund, is supporting Texas voters in their efforts to achieve fair maps by filing a comprehensive lawsuit challenging this action.
Before I continue, I want to ask you to make a donation by the end of October to help the NDRC keep going strong for as long as it takes to achieve fair maps.
We’re also in the thick of the fight against map manipulation in Oregon where the Oregon legislature passed, and Governor Kate Brown signed into law, a map that fairly represents all Oregonians. Republicans responded to this fair map by filing a lawsuit challenging it, but the NDRC immediately sprang into action. We are supporting voters in litigation to defend this fair map in court.
These are just two examples of our work around the country, and it's thanks to supporters like you that we can take on projects like this in states across the nation.
It's also thanks to supporters like you that we've been able to invest in a campaign to support the federal Freedom to Vote Act (FTVA), which, along with the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act (VRAA), is urgently needed to protect fair elections for all Americans. In fact, the newly gerrymandered map in Texas would fail the test for a fair map outlined in the FTVA.
Clearly this fight is far from over. Senate Republicans are still blocking this critical legislation, and we continue to work against anti-democracy legislators in statehouses across the country. We can't do it without you, John.
I am incredibly grateful for everything you've done for this movement so far. We still have a long way to go, and we must not falter. American democracy is too important.
Can I count on you to chip in today? >> [link removed]
