Friends, I’m proud to lead the full Minnesota Congressional delegation on a resolution honoring Prince with the Congressional Gold Medal — the highest civilian honor Congress awards.
Prince was born in my city of Minneapolis. He’s an icon not just here in Minnesota but around the world, and his music, his impact on our culture, and his movie “Purple Rain” have captivated me since I came to the United States as a refugee. My favorite Prince song, without a doubt, is “When Doves Cry.”
Prince showed me that a short, Black kid from Minneapolis has the power to change the world. He was part of a disenfranchised community, and so many people who grew up there finally felt seen as he rose to be one of the world’s most popular and talented musicians.
He has made an incredible impact, and it’s time that we recognize his legacy in Congress.
So, will you join me and the entire Minnesota congressional delegation in calling on the rest of our colleagues to pass legislation to award Prince Rogers Nelson with the Congressional Gold Medal? Add your name.
Thank you for helping this icon get the recognition he deserves.
In solidarity,
Ilhan Omar
