How Do Rates of Women Killed by Men Vary, State by State?

BY KRISTEN RAND | Women who are murdered by men are almost always killed by someone they know. The number of women shot and killed by their husband or intimate acquaintance was more than three and a half times the total number murdered by male strangers using all weapons combined. And Black women are at a significantly higher risk of homicide victimization than white women.

Sexual Abuse Survivors and Advocates Ask NJ Governor for More Time to Sue Perpetrators

BY DAVID CLOHESSY | Eleven national organizations that deal with sexual abuse are asking New Jersey’s governor to extend a Nov. 30 deadline after which considerably fewer victims of sexual trauma will be able to sue those who hurt them.

“Adding time to this crucial ‘window’ would expose child molesters and make more vulnerable kids safer,” said Mark Crawford, the New Jersey director of SNAP, the Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests. “It would also enable more still-suffering victims to find the strength and courage to take action against those who hurt them.”

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott Targets Trans Kids with “Hateful” Sports Ban

BY OLIVER C. HAUG | On Monday, Texas Governor Greg Abbott signed Texas House Bill 25 into law, barring trans youth participating on sports teams from playing on the team that matches their gender. The bill is set to go into effect in January of 2022.

With the bill’s passage, LGBTQ+ advocates in the state are increasingly worried about the safety of trans youth.
