Even when we think they can’t stoop any lower, Republicans always find a new way to undermine our state. The latest news? The Maine GOP has signed on to a letter demanding a MAGA “audit” of all 50 states.

What does this “audit” entail you ask? Well it’s not actually an audit. The signers of the letter, including the Maine GOP, want all 50 states to “scrub” their voter rolls and “decertify” 2020 election results because they were “corrupted.” There’s no precedent or official process for what they’re describing. It doesn’t make any sense to me either.

Here are the facts: Joe Biden won the 2020 election fair and square. Donald Trump doesn’t like that he lost, so he is lying and saying that the election was stolen and the Maine GOP is helping him do it.

This “audit” is nonsense and a waste of Maine voters’ time. Once again, the Maine GOP is putting Donald Trump’s Big Lie ahead of what’s best for the state. Whether it’s supporting Trump’s hateful agenda, rolling back COVID protocols, or restricting voting rights, these are the types of divisive, extreme politics we can expect for four years if we let the ME GOP’s handpicked candidate, former Governor Paul LePage, win.

LePage even echoed the Big Lie saying in Dec. 2020 “I tell you, this is clearly a stolen election. I think 70 million [Trump voters] all recognize that too many votes were illegitimate votes. People have voted more than once,”. 

We cannot let them subvert our democracy. 

John, we need your help. Will you pitch in $5 or whatever you can now to defeat Paul LePage and elect Maine Democrats in 2022?

As the chair of the Maine Democratic Party, I want you to know how crucial this moment is. Under Gov. Mills, we’ve made historic progress: banning harmful conversion therapy for LGBTQ people, expanding healthcare coverage, fully funding public education -- I could go on.

If Paul LePage wins, all of this progress is at risk. Instead of fighting for us, he’ll drag us backwards and bring Trump-style politics back to Maine. We deserve better.
