The event you've been waiting for... November Vegan Pop Up !!!! Join us this Saturday November 2nd from 1-4pm at the Berkeley Animal Rights Center, for our monthly vegan pop up. If you love food, you can't miss this! Enjoy delicious food while suppporting local vegan businesses. There'll be tacos, juices, cakes, boba, tortas, soul food, ahhhh what more can you ask for?! See you there!
Here are the other events we have happening this week (all taking place at the Berkeley Animal Rights Center, 2425 Channing Way, unless otherwise noted). Action events are colored in blue and community events are colored in orange -- both are crucial to our movement!
- Friday, November 1st, 4:00pm: Outreach at Oakland First Friday! - First Fridays in Oakland is a once a month nightly event with vendors and music. Lots of foot traffic and great opportunity to reach out to the public about anti-speciesism, #RightToRescue, and how they can get involved in the animal rights movement! Join us and develop, learn, sharpen your outreach skills, take photos at our photobooth, or learn how to handle VR as we show the public what goes on inside of animal agricultural facilities. Meet at 2301 Telegraph Ave, Oakland, CA 94612 and lok for our table.
- Friday, November 1st, 6:30pm: Ten Lessons from Europe's AR Movement - Orlando and Eva were just in Europe doing animal rights activism for months. Come hear what we can learn from European activists!Orlando spent 3 months traveling, giving talks, and meeting activists from France, Spain, Portugal, and the Netherlands. In Luxembourg, he started the Animal Liberation Training Camp - a new ALC-style conference for Europeans. Eva spent 3 weeks in London helping organize Animal Rebellion's 2-week mass civil disobedience. Get ready for some out-of-the-box ideas and thoughts about what the future of Animal Rights activism could look like.
- Saturday, November 2nd, 11:00am: Meetup: How DxE Activists Stopped a Slaughterhouse from Opening - Our movement is growing everyday and activists around the world are taking action for animals! Come hear from Balaji Venkatesan, one of the DxE activists who stopped a slaughterhouse from being built in Wisconsin. We'll hear how they made it happen, how they built coalitions with locals also opposed to the slaughterhouse, and what they plan to do next. Every Saturday at 11am we have Meetups for everyone and anyone who cares about animals and making the world a better place!
- Sunday, November 3rd, 11:30am: November Chapter Member Meeting: DxE SF Bay Area - Help us shape the direction of the local DxE community. This is the most important meeting we hold each month and it is a place for discussion, strategic planning and decision making. All Chapter Members and Organizers in the DxE SF Bay Area Chapter are encouraged to attend. This month's meeting will focus on DxE's first trial (against Diestel Turkey Ranch) as well as the Right to Rescue strategy.
Non-DxE SF Bay community events happening this week:
- Tuesday, October 29th, 1:00pm: Alameda County Board of Supervisors Meeting - From the Coalition of a More Humane Alameda County, on October 29th at 1pm, the Alameda County Board of Supervisors willl be voting on a proposal to prohibit riding sheep during rodeos. We need people to be a voice of suppport to get the ban passed. We also are going to introduce an ordinance to ban calf roping, flank straps, and spurs in Alameda County. Please come and support both! Be a voice for change.
- Friday, November 1st, 7:00pm: Dominion Screening at People's Park Movie Night - Bring friends to watch Dominion, a very important documentary that exposes the cruelty of animal agriculture and all aspects of animal exploitation. There will be a big screen in the middle of People's Park in Berkeley, CA. There will be free popcorn and in honor of World Vegan Day and the message behind this film, please bring only vegan food if you wish to bring anything.
