John,
Everywhere we look, we see Halloween: in the grocery store, at school, in decorations throughout the neighborhood. It’s a fun time in which we take a step back from reality to wear costumes, throw parties, and challenge ourselves to confront what scares us.
Here’s another challenge: in IL-07 and across this country, our reality is a frightening one we can’t step back from—not on Halloween, and not ever. This is the reality where we teachers are underpaid, where parents can’t find affordable child care, and where economic injustices keep people in poverty.
We face the reality of the global climate crisis and, in many communities, we face systemic issues like gun violence and lack of affordable health care. The terrifying reality is that many of these issues are life and death. And in the 23 long years he’s been in office, my primary opponent Danny K. Davis has let that reality linger and worsen.
