Hi Friend,

We all love a little scare around Halloween, whether it’s haunted houses or scary movies. But when scary turns to “downright terrifying” and “affecting the lives of people across the state,” well, let’s just say that makes Halloween a whole lot less fun.

Friend, by now, you probably know exactly what I’m talking about: Greg Abbott and Texas Republicans. This year, Texas Republicans unleashed the worst frights from the Capitol all across our state, including:

  1. Launching an attack on voting rights so blatantly racist, they quoted Jim Crow slogans during the debate on the House floor.
  2. Cutting off access to abortion for millions of Texans and unleashing abortion bounty hunters on our state.
  3. Allowing almost anyone to carry a gun in public with no license, no training, and few guardrails.
  4. Refusing to fix the grid -- leaving us as vulnerable as ever to winter power outages like last year’s.
  5. Forcing educators to teach revisionist history to our students, erasing our families’ realities from the curriculum and replacing them with lies.

Friend, frankly, I’m sick and tired of what Republicans are doing to our state. Because of their failed leadership, Texas is looking less and less like the state we know and love and more and more like a dystopian horror film. The only way we can put a stop to these attacks is by voting them out. Can we count on you to chip in $7 before our critical end-of-month deadline to vote these Texas terrors out of office?

Friend, if we get in gear today, we can make next year’s Halloween the right kind of spooky -- and a lot less abjectly terrifying. We’ve got one year to organize before the midterm elections. Let’s get moving.

In service and hope,
