Call to Action: Tell Speaker Pelosi to Keep CA’s Affordable Housing Priorities in Biden’s Build Back Better Plan!

With housing on the verge of major cuts in President Biden’s Build Back Better Plan, we need you to take critical action now.

Use our quick & easy Social Media Toolkit to tell Speaker Pelosi that funds for affordable housing and rental assistance are critical for rebuilding our communities post-COVID-19.

San Francisco Chronicle Editorial, 10/27: “How Joe Manchin and Kyrsten Sinema Might Gut California's Affordable Housing Efforts” This morning, the San Francisco Chronicle editorialized in strong support of housing investments in the Build Back Better Plan: “There’s no building back better with tens of thousands of people sleeping on our streets or in their cars and millions more a missed paycheck away from joining them. It’s essential that legislators recognize the unique circumstances of our housing crisis and plan accordingly. To devote billions to rent subsidies without giving people a home to use them is above all else cruel, yes, but also fiscally irresponsible.”

Let’s urge Speaker Pelosi and Representative Maxine Waters to stand for California’s most urgent affordable housing priorities! Read the quote from Representative Maxine Waters via New York Times.

Advocacy Spotlight: Noteworthy Efforts from Lawmakers and Others

Many California and Bay Area leaders are advocating alongside us to keep housing in the Build Back Better Plan.

Several elected officials, including San Francisco Mayor London Breed, President of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors Shamann Walton, State Assemblymember David Chiu, State Assemblymember Phil Ting, and State Senator Scott Wiener recently sent a letter to federal lawmakers saying that housing is their top priority in the Build Back Better package and should be for federal lawmakers as well! They cited the $324 billion in affordable housing investments as well as the urgent housing bond and credit provisions passed by the Housing Ways and Means Committee.

The Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC) and the Association of Bay Area Governments (ABAG), as well as 44 mayors across the nation, (including 5 Bay Area mayors), have also sent letters to federal lawmakers to urge that affordable housing remain a priority in the Build Back Better.
