There are now only 5 days left until the Supreme Court begins to hear arguments for SB 8 — Texas’ cruel 6-week abortion ban.
We need to be prepared for whatever happens. That’s why our organizing team is prepping right now for urgent actions we can take as a movement to prevent draconian abortion bans like SB 8 from becoming the precedent and demand abortion justice for all.
It’s heartbreaking, John: Every day, new stories and statistics are coming out about the catastrophic impacts of SB 8.
According to a recent article, nearby states are currently flooded with pregnant people from Texas seeking abortions in places where it is still legal. An Oklahoma provider, for example, reported a “staggering 646% increase of Texan patients per day” occupying between 50%- 75% of capacity in their clinic. Similarly a Kansas clinic “reported that about half of its patients now come from Texas.”1
What’s happening in Texas is a terrifying reminder why we must rise up together to defend abortion access. The impact of this Supreme Court hearing reaches further than just Texas, John. Whatever happens in this hearing will set a powerful precedent for abortion rights everywhere in our country.
There has never been a more crucial time for Women’s Marchers to show up in support of our health care, our rights, and our freedoms.
