Dear John,

You don’t have to wait for Election Day on Tuesday, November 5th, to vote in New York’s local elections. For the first time, New Yorkers can take advantage of Early Voting, which started on Saturday, October 26. I’m not on the ballot until June 23, 2020, but there are several important local issues that you can vote on through November 5. If you live in New York, be sure to vote as soon as possible.

Find your polling place and learn about the candidates and ballot measures here.

It was a wonderful experience to vote early this morning. I was energized to see my voting site full of people excited to have a say in our democracy and poll workers empowered to give people more opportunities to vote.
I voted early for the first time thanks to New York's new election laws.
Early voting means people who work long hours, travel out of town expectedly, or have significant caregiving responsibilities can find the time to make it to the polls. It’s good for all New Yorkers, and it’s a step in the right direction for our state in advancing fair and accessible elections.

If you’re in New York City, be sure to read up on the ballot measures including ranked choice voting, ethics reforms for public servants, and a more rigorous public review process for uniform land use review procedure to ensure the public gets to review major projects, zoning changes, and influence the continuously changing urban fabric.

Learn more about these issues and how to vote early here.

Our civic duty to vote happens more than once every four years. Join me in voting early in this year’s local elections.

All my best,
Lindsey
