Dear Friend --
I want to update you on the deployment of Long Beach Fire
Department teams to help combat California wildfires. Last Thursday we
received a request for assistance for the Tick Incident in Santa
Clarita and Long Beach Fire sent four fire engines, two Battalion
Chiefs, and partnered with West Covina for one additional fire
engine.
Then yesterday morning, the Long Beach Fire Department strike team
was redeployed from Santa Clarita to the Kincade Incident in Napa
Valley. The strike team joined two battalion chiefs and a fire captain
from the Long Beach Fire Department who were already deployed there as
part of the incident management team. This morning we deployed a
Battalion Chief to the Getty Fire on an overhead assignment.
The Governor has declared a state of emergency, which you can read
here.
This morning I visited Station 1 and Station 6 to thank our
firefighters for their work. Our crews are ready to provide assistance
where they are needed most and are doing well. We are all proud of
them and eager to see them come home safely.
The fires in Los Angeles County are affecting roads, with closures
in various areas around the Santa Monica Mountains, but so far we
haven't had any closures in Long Beach.
Please keep our firefighters and everyone impacted by the fires in
your thoughts.
Go Long Beach!
Mayor Robert Garcia
