The redistricting process is at its most critical stage, and the stakes couldn’t be clearer. If we don’t do everything we can, Democrats could be locked out of power for the next decade -- no matter how voters cast their ballots!
Here’s a quick recap of how we got where we are today:
FIRST, Republicans told us up front they were going to manipulate the maps! All the way back in 2020, the president of the Republican State Leadership Committee said redistricting would help Republicans “secure a decade of power” across the country.
THEN, they started to release map proposals that prove they’re taking gerrymandering to a whole new level. In Texas, they enacted congressional maps that ELIMINATE political competition in the suburbs, where Democrats have made big gains in recent years.
NOW, we're fighting back in states all over the country and at the federal level to bring an end to GOP gerrymandering and win fair maps nationwide. But we need your help to keep going at this crucial moment!
The NDRC has staff on the ground working to mobilize grassroots supporters so that Republicans know the public is watching. If politicians know there will be consequences at the polls if they get caught gerrymandering, they’ll have to think twice before moving forward.
Plus, we’re still pushing Congress to pass critical legislation like the Freedom to Vote Act, which would BAN partisan gerrymandering in congressional elections, and the John Lewis Voting Rights Act. And we’re supporting voters against lawsuits from Republicans that attack fair maps in court.
