Background:

In 2017, Virginia legislators asked for a study about whether assisted suicide should be legal here. The General Assembly’s Joint Commission on Healthcare then conducted a comprehensive two-year study. In response, nearly 3,000 public comments were received; those against assisted suicide outnumbered those in favor by a ratio of 8:1. Accordingly, in 2018, the JCHC voted not to recommend assisted suicide.

Now, just three years later, the chair of the Commission is proposing another workgroup or study on assisted suicide.

Take action today to tell the Commission not to spend any more time and taxpayer money on assisted suicide studies or workgroups. One two-year study was already way too much time and money down the drain!

The Commission’s next meeting is on Nov. 16 and they need to hear from you before then. Please send in your comments now and spread the word!

Under Virginia law, assisted suicide is illegal: anyone who intentionally assists in one can be sued by those who are left behind – family and friends, etc. This issue has already been studied; the law works. There is certainly no need to fix it.
