We urgently need federal protections to protect the right to choose.

The Texas law outlaws abortions after six weeks of pregnancy with almost no exceptions, and it deputizes citizen patrols to intervene in one of the most personal health choices someone can make.

This means any private citizen can sue doctors who perform abortions or individuals who provide any type of assistance to someone seeking an abortion -- such as offering a ride to a clinic or supplying monetary support.

And almost immediately after this draconian law was passed, Madison Cawthorn called for all 50 states to pass copy-cat laws.

The decision to have an abortion is a deeply personal and often painful one. We need elected officials and judges who respect a person’s right to make decisions about their own body.
