Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen asked Congress to require banks to report to the IRS every transaction in every bank account of more than $600. This would give IRS agents access to the private financial information of virtually every American. The administration even wants $80 billion to hire 87,000 new IRS agents to help carry out this plan. Beyond the massive privacy concerns based on the abysmal track record of the IRS in protecting taxpayer data, this would make every person with a bank account subject to an IRS audit regardless of tax status and whether there is any reasonable cause to believe they have done anything wrong. This idea was so outrageous that CAGW named Treasury Secretary Yellen our October Porker of the Month. John, I know that every American will share our outrage over this alarming plan from the Biden Administration.
