Hello Friend,

Here is a quick update on Texas’ SB8 and the Supreme Court of the US.

- Texas SB8, the nation’s most extreme anti-abortion law, went into effect September 1st, and since then Texans have been denied abortion care over 6 weeks gestation or have been forced to travel hundreds of miles to get the abortion care they want and need.

- SCOTUS declined to temporarily block SB8 from going into effect two days after the law went into effect, by a 5-4 vote. However, last week, SCOTUS decided to expedite oral arguments surrounding the case to begin.

- Next week, on November 1st, SCOTUS will hear oral arguments on Texas SB8.

The upcoming oral arguments aren't regarding whether the law is constitutional but whether the federal government can block the law.

Either way, this is not a good sign for abortion rights from SCOTUS.

So, as of now, we're looking at two SCOTUS oral arguments on abortion a month apart: DOJ vs. Texas on Nov 1st and the Mississippi case on Dec 1st.

We know how y’all are feeling, and trust me, we will get through this together.

Abortion is essential health care, and we will not stop fighting for our right to access abortion without stigma, barriers, or interference. Stay tuned to URGE’s emails and social media for more updates on SCOTUS.
