If Democrats lose the White House and Congress, Republicans will move quickly to undo the progress we’re making in protecting our public lands.

John — we have some good news, and some possible bad news.

The good news: After four years of severe reductions by the Trump administration, President Biden used his executive authority and restored three national monuments in Utah and New England.

Trump significantly reduced the size of Bears Ears and Grand Staircase-Escalante in Utah and a marine monument off the New England coast following intensive lobbying from ranchers, the fishing industry, and Republicans who wanted them opened up for mining and drilling.

On his first day in office, President Biden ordered a review of the Trump decision. In June, the Interior Secretary, former SEEC member Deb Haaland, recommended the president restore the original boundaries of the monuments and protect them from developers.

President Biden and SEEC members in Congress are fighting for our public lands. The Biden administration is still reversing environmentally harmful decisions made under Trump.

But here’s the possible bad news: If Democrats lose the White House and Congress, Republicans will move quickly to undo the progress we’re making in protecting our public lands.

And as we’ve unfortunately learned firsthand, it’s much easier to destroy than to restore. If these lands are ever opened to mining or drilling, they may be permanently scarred.

John, we can’t allow that to happen. Can you donate to help elect more SEEC members to Congress who will fight for our national monuments and public lands?

Thank you!
