SIGN NOW: Tell corporations like General Motors, UPS, and American Airlines to stop bankrolling members of Congress who incited the January 6th insurrection >>
John -- after the deadly attack at our Capitol in January, GM pledged to pause all political donations and re-evaluate its relationships with Republicans in Congress who voted to overturn the 2020 election.
But now, less than a year later, GM's corporate PAC has quietly resumed these donations -- and has already contributed over $70,000 to GOP lawmakers who incited the insurrection.
And GM isn’t alone. UPS, American Airlines, Tyson -- the PACs of many leading companies that pledged to suspend their donations have since kicked in money to help re-elect one or more of the members of Congress who attacked our democracy at Donald Trump’s behest. [1]
Sign the Petition: We call on corporate PACs to cease all donations to these Republicans -- and recommit to putting our democracy before their partisan political interests.
It’s shameful -- these companies’ short-lived pledges to prioritize our democracy were nothing more than empty words. And now that they think nobody's looking, they’re once again backing those politicians who incited a deadly riot at our Capitol.
The brazen behavior of these companies is proof that we need a campaign finance system that puts everyday Americans, not unaccountable corporations, at the helm -- which is why Common Cause is fighting to implement small-donor programs across the country. These programs make our elections more accessible and lead to better policies that improve the lives of workers, families, and seniors. [2]
But in the meantime, we must be ready to hold corporations that put their partisan interests before our democracy accountable.
If you agree that bold action must be taken -- and that corporations shouldn’t fuel the campaigns of insurrection-inciting members of Congress -- add your name today.
GM, UPS, and American Airlines are hoping that a few months was enough time for everyone to move on -- and that we won’t notice that they’ve started fueling the spread of dangerous disinformation again. John, let's show them that we’re paying attention.
Thanks for all you do,
