John —
In our country, 1 in 4 women and 1
in 10 men will experience domestic violence during their lifetime.
Here in San Francisco, we had over 7,000 domestic violence related
calls to 911 last year. Domestic violence is a public
health and public safety crisis that has only been exacerbated by the pandemic. In a city as
forward-thinking as ours, we have to do better.
As we highlight this crisis during
Domestic Violence Awareness Month, I’m continuing my work to protect
victims of crime and victims of domestic violence in San Francisco. I
introduced legislation to address the lack of transparency in
reporting on domestic violence by requiring the San Francisco Police
Department and the District Attorney’s office to report these
critical statistics publicly. On October 28th, I will be
holding a hearing on domestic violence to highlight important findings
from the Family Violence Council’s 10th Annual Report, along with my
legislation on reporting transparency.
I have dedicated my career as a
prosecutor, gun violence prevention advocate, and Supervisor to
advocating for victims. This work is my passion and I won’t quit,
even when I’m fighting against entrenched interests.

Warm
regards,
