John --
We're sorry to announce we must cancel this year's Harvest of Sacred Ponca Corn event scheduled for next Saturday, Nov. 2nd.
Due to climate-impacted Nebraska weather this year, the corn yield was extremely small. We're all sad to miss our annual tradition and coming together on the Tanderup farm this fall.
But, Art and Helen and a couple visiting students picked the few smaller ears that were salvageable last week (see: blue corn specimen pictured), and Art is encouraging folks who have saved seeds from past harvests (see: group photo) to share so that we may replenish our supply.
The Tanderups, the Ponca Nation, and all of us look forward to continuing this tradition with planting in the spring.
**We also have an important announcement of an upcoming meeting on Saturday, Nov. 16th in Norfolk for landowners on the proposed KXL route, Tribal members, and Pipeline Fighters.
Landowners' attorney Brian Jorde with Domina Law Group will provide a legal update, and answer questions from landowners who were recently sued by TransCanada in court in Nebraska to take their land via eminent domain for KXL.
Bold's Jane Kleeb and Tom Genung from the Nebraska Easement Action Team (NEAT) will also discuss the State Department's new draft Environmental Impact Statement for KXL, and give folks the opportunity to write and mail-in NoKXL public comments before the deadline on Nov. 18th.
After we break for a community lunch, we'll also offer a "Know Your Rights" training produced in conjunction with ACLU of Nebraska and other partners.
WHAT: NoKXL Meeting for Landowners and Pipeline Fighters
WHO: Landowners on the KXL route, Tribal members, Water Protectors
WHEN: Saturday, Nov. 16, 10:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
WHERE: Norfolk, NE (location details provided later)
REGISTER: Registration is required for all attendees: Register here.
SHARE: Share the details on Facebook.
Also, a special thanks to all who responded to landowner Jeanne Crumly and her family's ask for support in fighting TransCanada's new eminent domain lawsuits filed in court against hers and 90 other Nebraska farming and ranching families.
Folks like Jeanne and her family, and landowners with the Nebraska Easement Action Team (NEAT) have stood together fighting KXL for ten years. They're in it for the long haul. This new legal fight could drag out a while -- chip in to support the landowners fighting eminent domain in court.
Thanks for standing with us.
Tom and the Bold team
P.S. Chip in to support Bold Nebraska's work.
