For the second time this year, Senate Republicans used the Jim Crow filibuster to block critical voting rights bills from moving forward — this time, the Freedom to Vote Act, which would advance voting rights protections and expand accessibility of vote-by-mail.
Republicans have the audacity to quote Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in their floor speeches, and refer to the late Congressman John Lewis as a national hero, but then actively work to sabotage their life's work.
And now, we’ve gotten confirmation that some of these same Republicans collaborated with insurrectionists to help plan the January 6 riots.
We cannot allow insurrectionist members of Congress to dictate the legislative agenda in Congress. It’s time we hold them accountable and get rid of the Jim Crow filibuster to advance the work that voters elected Democrats to do.
Ayanna continues to speak truth to power — in the halls of Congress, on the steps of the Capitol, and at home in the Massachusetts 7th. Earlier this year, she co-sponsored legislation with Congresswoman Cori Bush to investigate and expel members of Congress involved with the January 6 insurrection.
That’s why it’s so important that our movement do everything we can to keep Ayanna in Congress, fighting to lift up the will of the people.
