On Tuesday, it was reported that North Korea had conducted its first submarine-launched ballistic missile for the first time in two years. The test occured in waters between the Korean peninsula and Japan.

On Thursday, NATO announced that the alliance is developing plans to counter Russian aggression through an increase of air and missile defense. The U.S. Patriot and SAMP/T air defense systems look to be the primary investments.

On Friday, it was announced that a 10-ship naval task force composed of Russian and Chinese ships sailed around Japan following a joint exercise in the Sea of Japan. The incident follows a series of aggressives demonstrations of power by China around Asia.
