Indivisibles,

Another week, another update on the Senate’s progress on reconciliation
and democracy reform. Here’s what’s up:

 1. Democracy: Sen. Schumer is continuing to collect receipts for Manchin
and Sinema to prove that no matter how much Democrats attempt
bipartisan negotiations, Republicans are never going to come to the
table. Last week it was the [ [link removed] ]Freedom to Vote Act (check out Meagan
and Ezra’s explainer here), this week we’re expecting another failed
vote on the John Lewis Voting Rights Act. TL;DR: The filibuster has to
go if we want to get anything done. [ [link removed] ]Even President Biden’s on
board!
 2. Reconciliation: This is going to be a tough week because everything in
the Build Back Better plan is up for debate. You may hear that X
priority has been lost or Y policy is being scrapped. Try not to
panic: pretty much nothing is final at this point, and negotiations
are ongoing and changing minute-to-minute. There are still a lot of
good things that everyone agrees are in the bill. Just stay focused on
our overarching demand: that the Senate pass a bill big enough to meet
this moment, and that they do alongside, not after, the infrastructure
package passes.

With that, here’s what you can do this week to make our country (and our
world) better:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

 Your 5 weekly to-dos

 1. [ [link removed] ]Call your senators about reconciliation. It’s crucial your senators
hear what’s important to you and why you insist they pass the full
bill alongside the infrastructure package. This is particularly
important if you live in West Virginia or Arizona.
 2. [ [link removed] ]Call your senators about democracy. We expect another vote on the
John Lewis Voting Rights Act this week sometime. Now’s a great time to
call your senators and insist they fix the filibuster and reform our
democracy.
 3. [ [link removed] ]Find a Freedom to Vote Time To Act week of action event near you.
The week of November 8, activists nationwide will be working together
to host events demanding Congress move the Freedom to Vote Act
forward.
 4. [ [link removed] ]Join an online or DC event to fix the courts. Worried about what
you’re hearing about the Supreme Court “shadow docket” or what will
happen if there’s another vacancy? Us too. One year after Republicans
jammed through Amy Coney Barrett to the Supreme Court, join Take Back
the Court and People's Parity Project in demanding lawmakers expand
the Court to protect our rights.
 5. Sign up for Mobile Updates: There’s a lot happening right now, and
things are moving fast. Text INDIVISIBLE to 97779, and we’ll text you
with breaking news when it happens. Don’t worry, we only text with
really important news and we won’t spam you!

We’re able to provide the resources above and do all our work because of
the generosity of grassroots donors who invest in this work. If you’re
able, [ [link removed] ]click here to donate to help fund our
work.

 IndivisiWin of the Week

[15]A tweet from Indivisible Chicago. There is a photo
of Rep Jan Schakowsky standing in a kitchen holding a
letter. The text reads Rep Jan Schakowsky shares our
thank-you letter. @RepSchakowsky, we are grateful for
your forthright stance: the vote for the bipartisan
infrastructure bill must happen *together with* the
vote for #BuildBackBetter. We're counting on all
@HouseDemocrats to follow your lead!
Chicago Indivisibles sent Rep. Schakowsky a note
thanking her for her support of Build Back Better.
Remember -- positive reinforcement is great! If your
Senator or Representative is fighting for something you
agree with, take time to give them a call or send them
a note of appreciation.

That’s all for this week! Remember to sign up for rapid response updates
by texting INDIVISIBLE to 97779, and follow us on [ [link removed] ]Facebook,
